Under 14 Dragons land places in field for Classic

Fantastic news for the Dragons program today, with confirmation that our 14.1 Boys and 14.1 Girls teams will compete at next month’s National Junior Classic tournament.

Both teams received invitations from Basketball Victoria over the weekend to take part at the showcase event – reward for their outstanding achievements in the VJBL competition so far this season.

The boys team, led by coach Conor Mathews, hit the halfway mark of the Victorian Championship season with a 6-2-1 record in the VC Watson division with their one draw coming against Bulleen 1 at Balwyn High School on Friday night.

Significantly, this group will become the first-ever Under 14 Boys team from Camberwell to compete at “The Classic”, as it’s affectionately known, when it hits the hardwood at the tournament.

Cara Jeffers’ girls also excelled during the first half of their campaign, putting together a 7-2 record in VC Ashe play – with their run featuring a five-game winning streak after a season-opening loss to Kilsyth.

The Classic features the best 128 teams in Australia, and will be played over the King’s Birthday long weekend (June 10-12).

We’ll have more on both Dragons teams and the tournament on the road to The Classic.

In the meantime, we want to share your memories of The Classic. Competed in one as a player or coach? Worked one as a referee, or even attended one as a fan and witnessed something special? Let us know at communications@camberwelldragons.com
