Look out, this exciting young group of Dragons is going to Basketball Victoria’s 3X Cup State Championships.

The team, which included Maeve Gray, Emily Whitmarsh, Lexi Thorpe and Olivia Prior from our Under 14 Girls program, swept its three pool games in the Under 13 division of the state qualifying tournament at Montmorency Secondary College at the weekend to advance to the State Champs in September.

Camberwell’s tournament ended with a three-point loss to Eltham in the grand final, but the girls qualified for the Champs as one of the top two teams.

Word out of the Dragons camp is the grand final was a great game that could have gone either way, and that it was “lovely to see the girls work as a team and strategise.”

Basketball Victoria launched the 3XCup this year as the 3×3 pathway for players to compete against others from around the state.

Congratulations on a great job over the weekend, girls, best of luck with your respective teams when the VJBL season resumes next week, and we look forward to watching you join forces again in September to chase a state title.
