Dragons take on the Southern Cross Challenge
Camberwell Dragons would like to congratulate Sara- Rose Smith for being selected into the U14 Girls Southern Cross Challenge (SCC) team. Sara is currently being coached by Cara Jeffers in the Camberwell Dragons U14/1 Girls who have just qualified to play Victorian Championship (this is the highest grade).
This is a tremendous achievement for Sara as there are only 20 players selected from Victoria Metropolitan area who are selected to compete at this event. At the Southern Cross Challenge she will compete against other teams including but not limited to Victoria Country, NSW Metro, SA Metro, ACT, WA Country and SA Country.
To be selected for this team Sara attended Basketball Victoria camps throughout 2013 which lead to her refining her skills, learning new concepts and being identified to represent Victoria in this state development team.
Not only do the Dragons have a player competing in the SCC, but also a coach. Mark Jeffers who currently coaches the U14/1 Boys at Camberwell has been given the position of U14 Girls SCC Head Coach for the tournament. Mark and Sara will be going against each other in the tournament as they are on the opposing VIC Metro teams.
The Southern Cross Challenge will be in Melbourne, at the State Basketball Centre from the 17th-20th January. More information will be supplied as it comes to hand.
