Dragons MUVJBL First Coach Announcements
Boys Program First Coaches
U12.1 Coach – Conor Mathews
Our very own Conor Mathews will be head coaching the U12 program this year after successfully steering his U12/1 Boys to a VJL1 Championship last season. Conor has a heavy focus on skill development which he will be implementing across the entire U12 program. It is great to have Conor on board once again in season 2018/19 to establish some consistency into our ever-improving U12 program. He is certainly looking forward to working with the new talent at the club.
U14.1 Coach – Mike Muntisov
After moving from the U16 program down to the U14s last season, Mike saw instant success, coaching his team to win the championship in VJL2. What was even more pleasing was the amount of growth we saw in each of Mike’s players across the year. Mike, who assisted by his son Tom, has seen great success developing fundamentals and creating cohesive team play. The two have been coaching with the Dragons for the best part of 6 years and have always achieved great results. Both Mike and Tom are looking forward to continuing to develop our U14 boys program.
U16.1 Coach – Mark Jeffers
Mark Jeffers will be head coaching the U16 program for the third consecutive season. Mark has been coaching for the Dragons for the last 7 years and has recently taken on the BigV Men’s team as well. Highly regarded skills coach Pete Maunder will be joining Mark as the assistant coach for the 16/1 and is looking forward to the emphasis on skill development across the entire age group. After a successful season in VC this year, they will looking at creating some sustained success in the U16 program. The two of them are looking forward to the big year ahead with a strong group of kids expected at tryouts.
U18.1 Coach – Andrew Power
This year we see our Director of Coaching Andrew Power lead a team of his own with the U18/1s. Andrew has a long playing history and has more recently been incredibly influential across the entire Dragons program, particularly last year in his official role as Director of Coaching. Andrew aims to best prepare our U18 players to take the next step to senior basketball, preparing them for Youth League and beyond.
Girls Program First Coaches
U12.1 Coach – Prue Ainsworth
We are excited to welcome Prue back after another great year of coaching our U12.1 Girls. For the past 4 seasons she has coached the girls to Victorian Championship level and will be looking to compete at that level again with a very talented group coming up. Prue has coached for over 15 years and has played juniors and seniors with Camberwell Dragons. She has helped build a strong and successful program over her time and we are proud to announce her as our 12-1s coach again for season 2018/19. The under 12 program is in good hands for what looks to be another exciting year ahead. Prue will be assisted by current Youth League players, Victoria Bodo and Tiarnie Ellingworth.
U14.1 Coach – Glenn Siegle
We are excited to announce the appointment of Glenn Siegle as our U14.1 girls for the 2018/2019 season. Glenn has a long history of high level basketball experience. He joined the club last year coaching in our under 14s program and is excited to make the step up to coaching the 14.1s. Glenn was a junior state player, captaining his state team to 3 Junior National Championships, had a successful SEABL career of over 250 games with Dandenong and Knox where he was captain, and received MVP and all-star team accolades throughout his SEABL career. Glenn also had an NBL career of just under 150 games for Victoria Titans and Brisbane Bullets. We are excited to have Glenn’s experience and knowledge of the game and believe he will be a huge asset to the under 14 girls program this season.
U16.1 Coach – Danni Fidge
We welcome back Danni Fidge as our U16.1s coach for the 2018/2019 season. After a successful debut season as a Dragons coach taking her team to a finals appearance we look forward to Danni taking our under 16s program to new heights this coming season. Danni will again be joined by her brother Tom, who has worked with her as an assistant coach for the last five years, together winning two championships. Danni and Tom are excited about coaching at Dragons for a following year and look forward to consolidating their work from the previous season and further developing and strengthening the junior program.
U18.1 Coach – Rachel Bett
Rachel returns to her role at Coach of the 18-1 girls this season after three years in the position. Over the past three years it has been particularly exciting to see our junior players progress through the under 18s program and into the senior program. Rachel is particularly passionate about ensuring her players are prepared for this transition and have the opportunity to continue their basketball at a senior level. She has been a senior player at the club for the past 8 years and will be looking to share her on court knowledge with the under 18 program this season. Rachel is excited by the prospects of the upcoming season and is looking forward to another year of developing the under 18s program.
