We’re all in | Dragons eye place in title game

It’s game day in the Big V, and we’re all in on our Dragons as they prepare to square off with Eltham in a much-anticipated semi-final at Eltham High School tonight for a place in the Youth League 1 Women championship game.

To make it through to the big dance, Camberwell will have to become the first team to beat its host this season, after the Wildcats swept all 22 of their regular season games.

The Dragons, led by coach Danni Fidge and featuring the league’s leading rebounder, Rachael Smith, are 0-2 against Eltham this season, but the two teams went the distance in their most recent meeting at Balwyn High School in June. The Wildcats rallying late in an absorbing contest that day to beat their host by two.

Eltham makes its first appearance in the 2023 postseason after receiving a first-round finals bye, while the Dragons had to take a longer route to tonight’s match-up. With Smith and Jacinta Li leading the way, they beat McKinnon on the road at GESAC in last weekend’s elimination final to advance.

From all at Camberwell, good luck to Danni and her team tonight. We’re right behind you as you look to make the good times last one more week.

Game time at Eltham High is 7pm. And if you’ve been lucky enough to score a ticket, have a great night out there.
