It’s been a big year already for our Under U14.1 Boys, and there’s even bigger and better times ahead for this exciting young group.
After putting together an impressive first nine games of the VJBL season, coach Conor Mathews’ team qualified for VC Championship play, and will launch the second phase of its campaign against Melbourne 1 at MSAC tomorrow night.
And just over a week away now is the National Junior Classic, where the Dragons will go at it against the test teams from Victoria and across the nation in one of Australian basketball’s most prestigious junior tournaments.
This group is preparing to become the first Under 14 Boys team from Camberwell to compete at the Classic, something which wasn’t lost on Conor when we caught up with him today.
“The Under 14.1 boys qualifying for the National Junior Classic, and being the first Camberwell Under 14 boys team to do so, is a testament to the talent and attitudes of the players,” he said.
“We take enormous pride in the opportunity to represent Camberwell in a tournament in which only the premier Under 14 boys teams nationally are invited.

”

Cara Jeffers’ Under 14 Girls have also received their invitation to “The Classic”, as it’s affectionately known, and we’ll catch up with her and her team before they tip things off over the King’s Birthday long weekend (June 10-12).
Fixtures for the event, which will feature the best 128 teams in the country, will be announced soon.
And if you can’t get out to support our two teams at the Classic, don’t despair. Games from six courts will be live streamed over the weekend – three of them at Dandenong Basketball Stadium, the other three at the State Basketball Centre.
