Dragons leave their mark on national stage

The Camberwell Dragons family congratulates the players, coaches and officials from our Under 14.1 Boys and Girls teams for their outstanding achievements at the National Junior Classic over the King’s Birthday long weekend.

The Dragons girls, led by Cara Jeffers, compiled a 3-3 record on their way to finishing sixth in a red-hot 16-team field – the highest-ever finish by a Camberwell team at the Classic – with their wins coming against West Adelaide, Moe and Sturt.

Their campaign ended on Monday with a 48-39 loss to Sandringham in the playoff for fifth and sixth.

The boys, led by coach Conor Mathews, began their tournament with a 69-45 loss to eventual champion Dandenong on opening day, but lost only one of their remaining five games – that one a 54-53 decision to Forestville in Pool play.

Though out of medal contention after that loss, the Dragons responded superbly to win their next three, and closed their campaign with a 76-67 win against South Adelaide in the B Grand Final to secure a ninth-place finish.

Congratulations again to both teams, and a huge thank you to the families and many Dragons fans for their wonderful support of them throughout the Classic.
